Making your Will is only the first step towards protecting your loved ones. Your Executors and Trustees have a great responsibility to the beneficiaries of your Will, in ensuring that the estate is administered quickly, efficiently and accurately.

For British nationals in particular, the rate of inheritance tax payable on estates is very high at 40%.  It is therefore prudent to use the nil rate allowance wisely to avoid unnecessary tax being paid.   This one  action alone could save ₤120,000 in taxes paid.

However, if you were to die without making a Will, your estate would become "intestate". This means that a Judge would then decide  who would benefit from your estate.

"Probate" is the name given to this procedure, which can be a lengthy and often  costly matter; this is easily avoided by making a Will.
